As Maria Ballesteros, representing Sarasota in the Miss Florida USA pageant, I want to share my journey of overcoming anxiety and depression during my middle and high school years. I faced relentless bullying that left me feeling inadequate and isolated, constantly seeking validation from others and believing I needed fixing.
Yet, with the unwavering support of my parents, doctors, therapists, school counselors, teachers, my parish and community organizations. I sought help. Today, I stand before you with a mission deeply rooted in my heart. Through this platform, I aim to advocate for teenagers who may feel overwhelmed by the pressures of the world and trapped in their struggles.
I want them to know that they are not alone. Prioritizing mental health and seeking help during this journey is crucial, and there's always hope.
Together, let's shatter the stigma surrounding mental health and empower each other to embrace resilience and seek the support we need.
Remember, it's okay to not feel okay all the time, and it's okay to seek help when you do.
